IT
Essentials: PC Hardware and Software
presents an in-depth exposure to computer hardware and operating
systems. Students learn the functionality of hardware and software
components as well as suggested best practices in maintenance,
and safety issues. Through hands on activities and labs, students
learn how to assemble and configure a computer, install operating
systems and software, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems.
In addition, an introduction to networking is included. This course
helps students prepare for CompTIA's A+ certification.
IT
Essentials II: Network Operating Systems is an intensive
introduction to multi-user, multi-tasking networking operating
systems. Characteristics of the Linux, Windows 2000, NT and XP
network operating systems will be discussed. Students will explore
a variety of topics including installation procedures, security
issues, back up procedures and remote access.
Duration
of Class: This course has been designed as a 70-hour
course. However, it addresses some very advanced topics that might
benefit from either a longer delivery model or some pre-selection,
or screening, of students.
Target
Audience: IT Essentials I: PC Hardware and Software has
been successfully taught at the middle school level. It is most
appropriate for high school level and above. IT Essentials II
is best taught at the high school and college levels.
